"I understand now that nothing is personal and we’re all dealing with our own struggles — that affects everyone differently"
Queens native, Indica Wave has recently released her single 'Infrared Beamin' we at Neo Music sat down with her to find out more about her music journey and if she was a snack what snack would she be
NEO: Where did your artist name come from?
INDICA WAVE: My brother helped me come up with it. When I was first recording music, I told him I wanted to relax (heal) people through music. “Indica” - we compared it to the way the strain can relax the body but keep the mind going. “Wave” for the way I hope my words could wash over others and cleanse them of their worries.
NEO: How would you describe your music journey?
INDICA WAVE:It’s definitely been a wild ride. I recently became independent after being signed— so from here + beyond, it’s a new journey I have complete creative freedom over and I’m very excited about that.
NEO: How long have you been making music?
INDICA WAVE: I’ve been singing since I was 4, writing songs since I was 8, and rapping since I was 10. I didn’t officially record music until 2017.
NEO: Who inspires you musically?
INDICA WAVE: I’m inspired by many genres actually. I love 2pac, Nas, J. Cole, Mac Miller, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, The Beatles, Sade, John Mayer and the list can go on forever.
NEO: What’s life like for you outside of music?
INDICA WAVE: Spending time with family, taking up a “Business of Music” class taught by Hovain Hylton over at Kingsborough College. I’ve recently gotten into directing, so I really want to explore that more.
NEO: Do you have any up and coming projects you are working on?
INDICA WAVE: I have new music dropping in February accompanied by a music video directed by me. I’ll be dropping every month, working up to a project.
NEO: If you were a snack what would you be and why?
INDICA WAVE: A bowl of cut up dragon fruit, mango, and guava. If you’ve never tried it.. you haveeee to.
NEO: What is your favourite series of all time?
INDICA WAVE: All the Harry Potter Books / MOVIES TOO.
NEO: If you had a super power what would it be and why?
INDICA WAVE: I’d love to be able to teleport.
NEO: What is something you used to believe in that you do not believe in any more?
INDICA WAVE: I guess I used to believe everyone was a good person.. but maybe that’s the reality I wanted. I understand now that nothing is personal and we’re all dealing with our own struggles — that affects everyone differently. I wish everyone well at the end of the day and choose to be the good instead of expecting it from others all the time.
NEO: Let us know how to find you on socials
