LYVES

Lyves is the amazing solo project of British-born Italian Australian singer, songwriter, and producer

Francesca Bergami. Deeply inspired by music that feels raw and deeply personal, Lyves draws

influences from sonic soundscapes that run the eclectic gamut, from Enya, Moby, and Philip Glass

to Bill Withers, Frank Ocean, Tracy Chapman and James Blake. Despite coming to music quite

“late”, having studied psychology and worked as a mental health advocate for sectioned children

and adults, Lyves has been able to channel that advocacy role into her music, where she hopes to

support and nurture listeners into healing, honesty, growth, and empowerment.

NEO: Hi LYVES. Congratulations on your most recent EP release “CHANGE”. It is a stunning project. Let us know what inspired you to create this body of work?

LYVES: Thank you! It was inspired by a time of much inner growth and change.  I had to let go of people and situations that were no longer serving my highest good. It's about embracing healing and moving towards authenticity and one’s highest self :)

NEO: Who inspires you musically?

LYVES: I'm inspired by so many beautiful artists - to name a few: Bill Withers, Frank Ocean, Enya, Tracy Chapman, Dave Okumu...

NEO: Out of all the songs you have released, which is your favourite? And why?

LYVES: They all have a special place in my heart but “Change” feels like I was able to delve many levels deeper and I'm proud of the lyrics on that one.

NEO: If you had a super power what would it be and why?

LYVES: To alleviate others suffering.

NEO: Where are you from and how does that affect your work?

LYVES: I'm Italian/Australian/British and was lucky enough to grow up in Portugal.  The cultures I'm a part of have definitely shaped my writing and perhaps informed my love of genre-fluidity in music. When I was a child I was especially in awe of Portuguese “Fado” music - the beautiful melodies and longing melancholic feeling in the music really spoke to me.

NEO: If there was a zombie apocalypse tomorrow, what is the first thing you would do?

LYVES: Try to negotiate with the zombies?

NEO: What would you like to achieve before your next birthday?

LYVES: Finish my album!

NEO: What is the best advice you have ever been given?

LYVES: Be yourself.  It's the only best thing you can be.  If you're standing in your most authentic self everything that is meant for you can flow your way.
