Marie Noreger

"I also like to create a lot of fictional scenes and I daydream a lot"

Even though there are no other musicians in 23-year-old Marie Noreger’s family, she is not surprised she ended up as an artist and songwriter. Marie grew up in a creative family, her father being a photographer, and a house-dj in his younger days, her grandmother being a painter, and her aunt being a puppet maker. There was always music playing in the house, and her father taught her about obscure house-remixes from the 90s. She also attended concerts with her father from a very young age. Marie Noreger is the first artist signing from The Orchard Nordics of Sony Records. The 23-year-old Norwegian released her first single “Adore” in June, which was radio listed on NRK P3. A lot’s in store for this newcomer, and two singles are yet to be released in 2020 before she releases her debut EP in March 2021.

NEO: How long have you been making music for?

MARIE NOREGER: I started making music in 2018. That is when i met my producer and manager, i did make music before that but it was not music i really wanted to make. When i met my producer he really made the beat and melodies that i truly wanted to express myself over

NEO: Who would you say inspires you musically

MARIE NOREGER: There are so many. In the space that i am in right now i listen to a lot of random artists i would not say they are huge artists but i am listening to a lot of happy laid back jazzy-r&b type artists. But inspiration comes from artists like Alicia Keys, James Blake, Lauryn Hill.

NEO: What is your guilty pleasure?

MARIE NOREGER: Chips definitely! I can eat a bag of chips every two days. In England you would call them crisps

NEO: What is the first thing people notice about you?

MARIE NOREGER: I always hear that I am open. It is weird because I do not feel open. I feel quite closed but people always say I am very open.

NEO: What emotion do you experience the most?

MARIE NOREGER: I experience a lot of nostalgia and happiness. I always like to think back and it makes me feel happy. I also like to create a lot of fictional scenes and I daydream a lot.

NEO: What are your passions outside of music?

MARIE NOREGER: Drawing. Taking photos and editing videos and storytelling, it doesn’t have to be musically but i love telling stories

NEO: If you could be any animal in the animal kingdom what animal would you be and why?

MARIE NOREGER: I would be some sort of cat animal. I think I identify with them. I am also really drawn to the ocean so i would like to be a animal in the ocean

NEO: What other music genre would you like to explore?

MARIE NOREGER: I would like to explore Jazz. I like house too so i would definitely want to experiment with Jazz and house. Ven music like James Blake but less lyrics and more voice

NEO: For your listeners and followers who are looking for advice on life, what key advice would you give to them?

MARIE NOREGER: I love this question. It is so important to be present. The future does not exist yet and the past does not exist any more. We spend so much time thinking about things that do not exist and forget to live in the moment. Definitely being present makes you more happy.
