Stella Angelika
"If I can help people feel less alone and more connected then I’ll feel happy."
Rising R&B artist Stella Angelika has released her new EP, ‘That Girl I Hate’.
Committed to raising awareness for mental health with her confessional honesty, Stella Angelika released the poignant single ‘Self Care’ last year which was a timely reminder to take time for ourselves. This thoughtful approach has seen her music recently supported by publications such as The Independent, The Line Of Best Fit and GLAMOUR to name a few.
For her latest project, she continues to reflect on her mental health journey and explores the subject of relationships, both with herself and with others. Through four blissful tracks that blend R&B, soul, and pop influences, ‘That Girl I Hate’ is a delicate yet incredibly hopeful project that proves there’s light at the end of the tunnel.
NEO: Hi Stella. Thanks for featuring on Neo! Tell us; how long have you been making music?
Stella: I can remember writing songs as far back as secondary school but I took a little break when I was at college and then properly got back to it when I was around 21 and have been writing and recording as much as I can ever since then.
NEO: Congratulations on the release of your latest EP “That Girl I Hate” ! Could you tell us about it and what the inspiration behind this release was?
Stella: Thank you! This body of work is all about relationship. relationship with others but I think more importantly my relationship with myself, which is something I’m still working on and often gets in the way of how I relate to others, especially my romantic relationships!
NEO: What is your biggest motivation?
Stella: Well I’ve struggled quite a bit with my mental health over the years so my biggest motivation is to show up as honestly in all of that in the hope that I can at the very least do my bit to raise awareness. Also just to make the best art I can possibly make.
NEO: Out of all the songs you have released, which is your favourite? And why?
Stella: Probably ‘Take Me Home’, it’s the song that feels closest to being truly authentic, it feels the most effortless to sing and unlike some of my other releases it still feels really right to me.
NEO: If you could make a difference in the world, what would you be known for?
Stella: Well like I said, mental health awareness is something I’m passionate about so I guess I’d like to do as much as I can in that space. If I can help people feel less alone and more connected then I’ll feel happy.

NEO: Give us 3 things on your bucket list?
Stella: Sky diving, travelling and seeing as much of the world as possible and watching Beyonce sing live.
NEO: What emotion do you experience the most?
Stella: Probably anxiety.
NEO:What is your creative process like?
Stella: Most of the time I will start with a concept or lyrical idea, often it comes to me attached to some kind of melody and if not then I’ll work on the melody next. After that I’ll normally bring it to my co-writer and he’ll work magic with the chords and harmony instruments and then finally we’ll work on the beat. Although the writing I’ve been doing most recently has been much more of a 360 approach, I’m thinking about all of it all at once and I’m actually really enjoying that and feel excited about what I’m creating.
NEO: If you could speak to your 16 year old self, what would you tell her?
Stella: Don’t be in a rush to grow up, enjoy being young and without any of the responsibilities of adult life! Also don’t give up the guitar.
NEO: Should we be expecting new music anytime soon?
Stella: Yes! I am working on my next EP and I’m really excited about it!
NEO: Finally, let us know where to find you on social media!
Stella: I’m @stellaangelikamusic on instagram and @Stellaangelika_ on twitter although I never use twitter!
