Yazmine MB

" a vegan chilli (with all the trimmings) for mains and a GU vegan cheesecake for dessert"

BRIT School graduate, Yazmine MB has all the potential, creativity and flair to become the UKs next big soul artist. Growing up in South East London with a strong sense of identity and love for the arts, Yazmine immersed herself in the world of music. Yazmine combines a warm, honest tone with soulful concepts and ideas to create a fresh, fusion sound we caught up with her to find out if she could create a fortune cookie given to herself when she was 16, what would it say

NEO:How would you describe your music journey?

YAZMINE MB:It kind of feels like a movie in the sense that right now, I’m at the beginning of the movie when the main character is working three jobs and rushing all over the place and then going home late and working on their passion until the early hours. That’s me at the moment! It’s hard work juggling everything but I’m so enjoying the journey and I’m really working hard to achieve my goals and improve as an artist so I hope one day to look back and say I earned it!

NEO: How long have you been making music?

YAZMINE MB:Well I wrote my first song when I was around 4 years old, it was about something silly like flowers growing in the garden and minibeasts in the soil. I’ve always had a genuine interest for lyrics, poems, rhymes and just music! It’s always been a coping mechanism of mine, and just a general company in my daily life - I have a playlist for everything!

NEO:What’s life like for you outside of music?

YAZMINE MB:Well as I said above I work three jobs and they’re all with kids so it’s a little full on! Sunday is my only day off so I take that day to do absolutely nothing at all haha. Funny you ask that because my next track out soon is all about being busy, and me needing to relax and take a chill pill sometimes! But I really do love my jobs, the kids I work with are absolutely hilarious, and great judges of any new music I write! I’m blessed to have some great employers and colleagues which makes my life a lot easier!

NEO:Do you have any up and coming projects you are working on?

YAZMINE MB: I do indeed! Two more single releases scheduled for this year with some visuals attached ;) I also have a funk band called FAZE, we’re looking to get two singles out before the end of the year too! We’re a completely different vibe to my solo stuff so I get to live out my alter ego! In terms of big projects be sure to look out for my EP in the early Spring 2021, I’ve got some cool new tracks and videos in the works. I put all my updates on Instagram and Facebook so feel free to follow me there for the latest!

NEO:If you were a three-course meal what would you be and why? Starter, Main, and of course Dessert!

YAZMINE MB: Haha. Great question! I’d definitely be a Bruschetta for starter, a vegan chilli (with all the trimmings) for mains and a GU vegan cheesecake for dessert. I love all my foods from all over the place so you could ask me this tomorrow and I’d say something else but you really can’t go wrong with bruschetta and a glass of wine. I’m partly italian on my dad's side so I love my Italian food. The other two I just love, me and my boyfriend bonded over our love of chilli and GU vegan cheesecake is just to die for so there you go!

NEO:What is the most memorable moment in your career so far?

YAZMINE MB: I’d have to say my first ticketed show at The Raven in February this year was my all time highlight. All my friends and colleagues showed up to support and I just felt so much love in the room - and there were only 30 of us! One of my tracks called Healer (it may or may not be on my EP ;) ) brought us all to tears and I almost bawled on stage, and I’m not usually one to shed a tear! Absolutely unforgettable experience and I can’t wait to play to even bigger audiences and go on tour, nothing like connecting through music!

NEO: If you could make a difference in the world, what would you be known for?

YAZMINE MB:I’d have to point blank feed, clothe and house everyone. I don’t believe that anyone should have to go hungry, thirsty or homeless. It’s a basic human right. I’d also completely reverse climate change, we are headed towards a scary time and the world ending is the last thing we need! I may not have superpowers but I will always be out on the streets protesting for good causes and want to use any platform I create to help others.

NEO:If you could star in a TV show, what would it be and why?

YAZMINE MB:This sounds really silly but it’d have to be either Hunted or SAS Who Dares Wins! The idea of going on the run or taking a military course fills me with a lot of excitement!

NEO: If you had a controller that had the power to rewind or fast forward which one would you press and why?

YAZMINE MB:I’d probably rewind. It’d be amazing to meet my family members and my ancestors. I’d also love to see how the Egyptians and Medieval folk lived! The future is too scary to look at haha…

NEO:If you could create a fortune cookie given to yourself when you were 16, what would it say?

YAZMINE MB: It would say ‘Keep doing what you’re doing’. Everything I’ve done has led me to the path I’m on now so no regrets here!
