NEOhad to catch up with the lads to find out if there was a zombie apocalypse tomorrow, what is the first thing they are doing.
NEO:Where did your group name come from?
DA COSTA: We were all in a group chat trying to figure out what to call ourselves after working on our first few
records, it started as just banter about our grandparents and Jean felt like the name Your Grandparents held weight and it stuck.
NEO:How would you describe your music journey as a group?
DA COSTA:We’ve been friends since middle school and always talked about how we wanted to make music and films.
Once we got to high school, I think we all realized that none of us wanted to go to college so we just got into everything we were into.
NEO:What’s life like for you outside of music?
DA COSTA:To be honest it’s really normal, we be drinkin, kickin it, you know apéro type shit, like french folks.
NEO:What do you enjoy most about being a musician?
DA COSTA:The fact that freedom of expression is literally our job is pretty cool. There have been a lot of day
jobs before this. It’s an outlet and a way to express emotions we can’t explain in simple terms.
NEO: What was the reason behind the title of your last release?
DA COSTA:We were watching a lot of blaxploitation films and got really inspired to create our own version of a world like that.
NEO:If you could star in a TV show, what would it be and why?
DA COSTA:Check back with us in a few months. (Filming in progress)
NEO: If you could make a difference in the world, what would you be known for?
DA COSTA: Inspiring people to be their most authentic selves, and making the world a safer place for people of color, specifically black women.
NEO:If there was a zombie apocalypse tomorrow, what is the first thing you would do?
DA COSTA:Hit up a Costco. They have an insane amount of food. Jean got a samurai sword. We just need some glocks, and we good.
NEO:If you could be any animal in the animal kingdom, what would you be and why?
COLE:“I'd be a Bear cause I give off bear energy. I like to sleep and eat.”
DA COSTA:“I'd be a monkey. I've always wanted a monkey's tail after watching DBZ as a kid”.
JEAN:“I'd be a Black Panther because they're black and stealthy.”
NEO:What song would you use as a theme song for your lives currently?
JEAN:What’s Happening Brother- Marvin Gaye
DA COSTA:Sweet Life-Frank Ocean
COLE:Riot - Childish Gambino
