- Floyd Fuji - ‘Sunspot EP’
Virginia-born, LA-based singer/songwriter Floyd Fuji has released his new EP, Sunspots. The five-track project includes previous singles songs “Tongue Tied,” “Breadwinner” featuring Topaz Jones and “Inside.” This body of work showcasing the versatility of this genre-fluid artist. Speaking on the project, he states: “Sunspots is a summer journey/love letter to myself and the people around me. It's about finding the balance between the sun and the shade in my life. I had to look in the mirror and ask myself every day, "what do you want?" "How do you feel?". ‘INSIDE’ details a conversation between two partners learning all parts of each other. The track is evocative, soulful, and romantic with buttery audio. ‘TONGUE TIED’ was inspired by the feelings from Lockdown “This song was written during the first Covid lockdown here in LA. I was already fantasising about what it would feel like to leave my house finally. We were stuck inside for so long. I almost forgot how to walk, talk, and meet new people...I hope this track makes you dance around and momentarily release the worries of the world around you.” In the penultimate track, “End of Days,” Fuji pens a sweet note to his significant other that professes his everlasting love. “When U Coming Home” is a silky number that hears Fuji’s weightless falsetto fluttering over a guitar-driven production. - Sophie Faith - “Pinky Blues”
Rising London-based singer/songwriter Sophie Faith delivers a jazzy heartbreak in ‘Pinky Blues’. Faith’s perfect vocal delivery compliments this bluesy production crafted by Linden Jay interwoven with moreish guitars and a rapturous bass, Faiths’ soulful harmonies add focus to her poetic lyricism over a simple yet effective beat. Reflecting on how the song came to be, Sophie Faith shares: “I actually wrote this single for an advert for a microphone company. They asked me to sum up what 2021 was to me, and I’d just come out of a relationship. The main focal point for us breaking up was the conversation around whether we were aligned on having children. I think it became really evident that we weren’t, and even having a small part of me that wants to fulfil dreams of being a mother, it felt like in order for me to be in the relationship I would have to sacrifice that.” She adds: “So it was an ode to anyone who has had to make a decision based on what they want, even if the immediate form of that person is still beautiful and amazing, your goals are just not aligned...It’s the first time I’d written and recorded by myself in my room during the lockdown, and it gave me the opportunity to be really honest and comfortable.” Don't forget to stream/buy/download Sophie Faith ‘Pinky Blues’’, available on all platforms.
- Debbie - Cherry wine
“My sweet cherry wine, I need you by my side Because I'm feeling the pressure tonight”, we can all relate to the occasional need of the help of Wray and his nephews, a shot of tequila or a cheeky cider as a bout of Dutch courage at times where were out and need to activate our most extroverted self. Debbie encapsulates this notion, cradling her bottle of “Cherry Wine” as a means of coaxing her social anxiety on a night out. Debbie encapsulates this notion, cradling her bottle of “Cherry Wine” as a means of coaxing her social anxiety on a night out. “Sometimes I feel alone in a room full of people - it’s like the ultimate brain fog, and I can’t seem to get past my mental block and just socialise. Cherry Wine is me talking about how I can be awkward at times and need some dutch courage (aka Cherry Wine) in order to relax and get comfortable.” -Debbie states on the inspiration behind the record. Her story-telling abilities are evident in how she takes us through her experience at the party stanza into chorus – her soulful voice brings us in and holds us in the warmth of the base of her voice and tone. The falsetto use in the (normally structurally abandoned) pre-chorus almost serves as a hook as it brings texture to the track – this London born and bred singer-songwriter has brought a nostalgic old-school RnB feel back into the UK RnB scene in the best way. Riding off the success of her debut track “Is This Real Love?”, Debbie is going from strength to strength in her artistry – and she’s only 22! We cannot wait to see what else Debbie has in store for us, as we know that this is just the beginning for her! Check out 'Cherry Wine' by Debbiehere:
- Chxrry - The Other Side
Chxrry, the Ethiopian-American new “XO records” signee has audibly transfixed us once again. After the debut of her singing videos took the Toronto raised creative from bedroom artist to viral sensation in 2017, Chxrry has decided this year for 2022 she was going to bless us with her new Ep “The Other side”. The self-proclaimed proud Aries has described “The other side” as a way of her “coming to terms with the duality of her personality’. She uses the Ep to explore her two sides – villain and victim. The opening track “The Other side”namesake of the whole project, is a perfect example of New age Rnb as it is optimises the use of various strings with a perfect blend of hard syncopation and drum beat. The song is a humble-brag of Chxrry lived experience as she is now “up” meaning she has earned her place in a more established part of her musical journey – listening to the track it lyrically sparked similarities to the “can’t tell me nothing”, while audibly capturing the softness and flow of Jhené Aiko and Justine Skye. The EP and track has made me very excited about future projects. Check out the official audio from the new EP 'The Other Side', available everywhere now:

- Bellah - Adultsville
It has been a while since a project has resonated with me as much as Bellah’s latest EP, 'Adultsville'. One of the most exciting voices in UK R&B, Bellah is exploring the peaks and valleys of entering adulthood as a young woman. “Just got evicted from my youth didn’t even get a notice”; there couldn’t have been a better opening line. The title track, ‘Adultsville’, almost sounds like a quick how-to guide for staying composed upon entering this chaotic phase of one’s life and sets the scene perfectly for the journey the record is about to take us. From past lovers thinking you’ve changed just because you’ve leveled up (‘Prototype’), to keeping yourself accountable throughout the drama and questionable decisions (‘In The Moment’), Bellah’s silky vocals serve as a reminder that everything’s actually going to be okay. We are also treated to an extended version of fan favourite “Evil Eye”, whose viral COLORS performance currently stands at over 1M views. Working with an all-star team of collaborators, including executive producer Ari PenSmith, Adultsville feels like a defining project in Bellah’s career, that is truly taking off–and I truly can’t wait to see what happens next for this superstar on the rise! - 53 Thieves- Latitudes
53 thieves are back again to bless us with their new project Latitudes. Latitudes is a no skip album that consists of 12 tracks and will keep you engrossed. It’s a chill vibe with a euphoric feel. The harmonies are so effortless, the production on each track is flawless with a perfect balance of chill and upbeat. It’s the type of music that makes you want to grab a long island (or insert favorite cocktail here, i just love a good long island) with the sun hitting your face. There are a couple of features on there from artists such as Pell, who released the hit track Fallin’ apart, Kaelin Ellis who’s the genius behind Cats groove. Every track on this album is a vibe so picking a favorite is hard, but if I really have to, it would probably be “heights”. The hook is catchy and I love the concept behind it. Latitudes is available on all streaming platforms, so go check it out, you’ll love it, I promise!
- Rayl - Summertime
Canadian based musician Rayls track “summertime” is definitely the one to keep you warm this time of year. From the honey-like smooth melodies to the delivery when it comes to the lyrics. It’s a feel good love song, honestly.. it’s the weather for it so make sure to add this to your playlist this cuffing season, you won’t be disappointed. Erin B features on the track and it makes for a beautiful collaboration, the vocals compliment each other. It’s giving me old school “my boo” Usher ft Alicia keys vibes. Who doesn't like reciprocated love? Put the heartbreak songs down for a second. “Summer time” was produced by Adamjosh, it’s been out for a couple of weeks now and I can’t lie it’s been on replay! - Joya Mooi - What’s Around the Corner- Side A
Joya Mooi has released her 4th Album ‘ What’s Around the Corner (Side A)’ and it doesn’t disappoint. The 9-track project is an enthralling body of work that seeks to escape from the chaotic world to find the quiet needed to fully contemplate it. Featuring previous singles ‘You Know Me Well By Now’, ‘Most Frail’, ‘Roselle’ and ‘Did Enough’, ‘What’s Around The Corner’ is an honest and authentic body of work that’s heavily influenced by stories from Joya Mooi’s past and present, with delicate melodies, explorations of pop trap, R&B, and more layered with both live instrumentation and electronic sounds. With Side B, set to be released in 2023, we cannot wait to hear the rest of the story. “With this project, I’m hoping to set some things in motion. Side A leans into escapism & seeking clarity; I’m sensing many things are reoccurring, noticing fuck ups of myself and the world. And I feel the growing need to do something about it.
